The hostelries hereabouts are known for serving good food as well as a good brew. Many serve the popular local Adnams beer, brewed in Southwold (where you can even do a Brewery Tour). Many Free Houses hold Summer Beer Festivals.
More recently, a number of local distilleries have popped up.
Quite a few talented chefs have succumbed to the charms of the area and set up restaurants in public houses, a trend that accounts for the several premises laden with awards and accolades. Yet there are plenty of family-friendly pubs for good yet simple eating.
Good quality fish & chips abound – for example, at Southwold Harbour, eat freshly caught fish in shacks alongside the fishing boats.
There’s a plethora of lovely cafes and coffee houses in the area too.
